The Retreat of Multilateralism in Peacekeeping and the Emerging Role of Regional Actors

This Insight looks at UN peacekeeping in light of the requests to close missions in Mali, Somalia, DRC, and Iraq. While the absence of the UN is leading to the rise of regional actors in addressing conflict, increasing diversity and regional participation in the arena which are largely positive, the need for impartial multilateral actors has not diminished. This insight looks at the implications of this movement.
