Dr. Sara Chehab is the Academic Director at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) in Abu Dhabi (UAE). In this role, she oversees the development and delivery of AGDA’s portfolio of academic programs, including its Master’s and graduate-level offerings for diplomats and foreign policy practitioners. She is responsible for curriculum development, faculty affairs, academic standards, student affairs and the library, in addition to ensuring that AGDA’s teaching and learning agenda equips current students to navigate the complexities of contemporary global affairs.
Alongside her academic leadership responsibilities, Dr. Chehab founded the “Women and Diplomacy” research program at AGDA, and trains diplomats on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda and contemporary global and economic affairs.
Dr. Chehab’s research interests and publications revolve around gender and diplomacy and feminist foreign policy. She is the author and lead researcher of the annual Women in Diplomacy Index, a unique index that tracks the percentage share of women ambassadors around the world. She also writes regular opinion pieces in the UAE press on the representation of women in foreign policy and the WPS agenda.
Prior to joining AGDA, Dr. Chehab was Assistant Professor at Zayed University in Dubai, where she received a Teaching Excellence Award in 2014. Dr. Chehab received her PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware in the US. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations from the same university, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Lebanese American University (LAU), in Lebanon.
