    COP28: Diplomatic opportunities and challenges for the UAE

    Mitigating climate change is vital to the country's economy, society, and national security. COP28 is the UAE's greatest diplomatic opportunity bring about a historic sea change in global climate policy and to establish itself as a diplomatic powerhouse. Most importantly, the country has the unique chance to lead the green revolution in the region, for example, with pioneering policies like carbon pricing, divestment initiatives from fossil fuels, and a moratorium on fossil fuel extraction investments.

The latter calls for increased accountability as well as consideration of diverse energy constituencies.
